Hello. Above is a picture of me at kindergarten. This is my life during the week (and sometimes the weekends). It is fun albeit exhausting work. This leads me to my next point. Unfortunately, woman cannot survive on peanut butter marshmallow Rice Krispie treats and popcorn alone (believe me, I’ve tried). This requires me to […]

Good evening. It’s me. I’m still feeling a bit delirious from the excitement that was Iowa football Saturday night. DID YA SEE THE HAWKS? Prior to the game, we joked that, if it was a blowout, we would probably just leave early and go watch it on Sam’s couch. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT IT […]
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. Two weeks ago, I stepped foot into my classroom along with 26 darling little people. The weeks leading up to the first day of school, as well as the past two weeks, have been absolutely exhausting! Like man oh man, I am absolutely nowhere near ready to have children. […]
Hello, everyone. FIRST OF ALL. THIS IS MY TOMATO PLANT. I am unjustifiably proud of this ginormous weed that is currently prospering on the deck of my apartment. Yes, I do realize that successfully keeping alive a living thing is something that most everyone has accomplished at some point in their life. My luck […]
Hello! It’s me! Here I am. All spring, I dreamed about summer. The vast amount of unstructured time left open for baking, reading, laying by the pool, yoga classes, and reality tv seemed too good to be true. “HOW DO PEOPLE SURVIVE NOT HAVING SUMMERS OFF?????” I often wondered to myself. While I don’t completely […]
Happy Day Before The Day Before Spring Break! (Teacher perks!) I’m so excited to share this yummy recipe with you tonight! These Funfetti Pudding Party Cookies (a tongue twister, truly) are AMAZING. The pudding helps the cookies stay so super soft, and the flavor is a combo between a blondie and a sprinkle cookie (HEAVENLY). […]
Today I learned that my eye insurance does not, in fact, cover the complete cost of a year’s worth of contacts.I also learned that there is a co-pay for seeing the eye doctor for my annual exam. “The contacts will come to $180 total, along with $15 for the exam,” the kindly man at the […]
Hello friends. Life has been really crazy lately. Permission to be honest? I want to talk for a minute abut teaching. Lately, it feels as though so many people have been asking me how teaching is going and about my first few weeks as a kindergarten teacher. My response is always the same. “The kiddos […]
Hello friends. Today was the YUCK-est of all days. Total yuck. Complete yuck. I would like it to be done now. The past few days I have been battling a nasty cold. I knew this was coming. As Sammy so delicately phrased it “you are essentially one big germ in charge of 26 little germs”. […]
Hello friends. Happy Labor Day! I hope your day was spent with the ones who make your heart happy and lots of yummy snacks. Two weeks ago (I’m rounding up here, because it feels like about one million years) I started teaching kindergarten! I am now an officially employed full-time working woman (benefits and all!). […]
To me, food is a love language. In times when words are hard (or nonexistent), something baked and yummy can say it all. Creating homemade delicious treats doesn’t have to be complicated or intimidating, and the fact that I’m typing this currently is proof you don’t need special culinary skills. I’m a twenty something kindergarten teacher from Iowa who loves popcorn, jammies, and sprinkles. Let’s get baking!
